Dominant Violin Strings
These strings are most likely the most popular violin strings on the market. They are
similar to a gut string in that they have a mellow sound with rich overtones, but don’t
sound metallic like a steel string. Typically the first string I recommend to progressing
students are Dominants, as I feel they are a huge step up from a Steel String. These
strings are my favorite choice for those not willing to spend a lot on strings, but want
an upgrade to steel.

Dominant violin strings tend to uncoil over time and need to be changed more often
than you would like. They also do take a few days to break in and stretch like most
synthetic strings. In my opinion, the dominant E-String is not the same quality as the
other strings, and should be replaced with another E-String. Typically the “
Pirastro
Gold E” is a good match with these violin strings.

Buying at Amazon
Amazon.com is my favorite place to buy violin strings. They have the lowest prices on
strings that I have seen on the Internet. They have a huge selection that includes
almost every specific string gauge and material on the market. Below are links to buy

Dominant.
